(Y'�f1 J� W BEVE �2 LAN�SCAPING In previous meetings that had been taken place between a former acting general contractor to the project and the City Planning Department, the discussion of the gates had never been brought up, as it was not determined that the homeowner wanted a gate at the time. Earlier plans, however, may have indicated the idea of a gate, but at a lower height in accordance to a plan to fence the entire perimeter of the property along the frontage. The design of the entrance monuments, which vary slightly from the ones today, had been verbally approved as compliant. The former acting general contractor is no longer associated with this project, and the homeowner has no plans to fence the perimeter of the property. However, this decision may be affected if instances of vandalism to the property along the street continue or escalate. ( To date, there have been two instances of vandalism to the property from the street, and a case of petty theft from the construction crew on site.) In spite of the circumstances which lead us to where we are today, there is a case to be made for factoring in distinctions between "fences"and "entrance gates,"as well as attributes such as opacity and material choices which affect the visibility of the gate and the views into the property. In searching upwards of twenty prominent entrance gate fabricators found on the Internet, there are virtually no gate designs that span sixteen feet(the clearance for emergency vehicles) that are under 42" in height. There are also very few that are under six feet in height. Nearly all of their standard models start at six feet in height and range from six feet to nine feet at their apex. Therefore, a mere handful of models out of the vast number readily available and widely sold around the country are permissible within the City of Orono at this time. I have included a packet of information from six of these major gate fabricators which show the common styles and their dimensions. Here is a selection of a few models similar to our design.
