This looks completely out of scale, and not in-step with the upscale and
stylish design that Orono neighborhoods are known to showcase. It is much more be-fitting to
have a gate that is directly in the scale of the monuments, where the height of the gate is the same
or directly corresponds with the monuments. It is also to be noted that the opacity of our
proposed gate is 50% or less, and it is earth-toned, which lessens the imposing quality that a
taller gate might have. The homeowners intend to have the name of the estate scribed subtly into
the design, as well as the date of establishment. Again, these design elements are stylish, but
subtle, and are directly to scale with the neighborhood, and the great architecture known to the
City of Orono.
Lastly, we humbly and regretfully submit that in being previously misinformed about the codes,
or the existence of codes for entrance gates as being those stated for fences, the gates have
already been ordered and have largely been purchased. They have been custom fabricated as a
one-of-its-kind, and the structural and mechanical fittings for them have all been anticipated in
the on-site construction. We have, and we continually plan to exhibit compliance for codes in all
other aspects of this project, but this was an unanticipated and unforeseen issue. We sincerely
ask for your blessing to install these gates as proposed, and to please consider this case for appeal
in better defining the codes written for entrance gates in the City of Orono. This community has
some of the best architecture in Minnesota, and entrance gates and monuments can also be an
integral part.
Thanks for your consideration, and I look forward to meeting with you soon.
Sin ely,
)
David Sonka ,% ' '
Landscape Designer

Bever Landscaping, Inc. --' -
7309 Lake Drive
Lino Lakes, MN 55014 '—' ~
Phone: 763-784-4390
Cell: 651-307-3562
cc: Adam and Kathy LaFavre, Simply Automation, Luke Busker Masonry
