Date: May 13, 2024 Item: 11 <br />Presenter: Josh Lemons, Parks & Golf Superintendent <br />Section: Consent Agenda <br /> <br />Title: Accept Resignation and Appoint Golf Course Superintendent <br /> <br /> <br />1.Purpose: <br />The purpose of this item is to accept the resignation of Golf Course Superintendent Jack Thonvold <br />and to appoint new Golf Course Superintendent Greg Fink. <br />2.Background: <br />Golf Course Superintendent Jack Thonvold has served the City of Orono two and a half years and <br />was a great asset to the Parks Department. Jack's last day with the city will be Friday, May 17th. <br />We wish Jack all the best as he begins a new and exciting chapter in his career. Jack's departure <br />will leave a vacancy in the Golf Course Superintendent role. This position is crucial for golf <br />course operations and should be filled as soon as possible. <br />3.Recruitment: <br />Staff posted the vacant position internally and received one application from a current City of <br />Orono Parks employee. <br />4.Recommended Candidate: <br />Greg Fink has over five years of golf course experience and was most recently the Assistant Golf <br />Course Superintendent at Interlachen Country Club. Greg is highly qualified for the position and <br />is highly recommended from his peers. Greg is currently serving as a City of Orono parks <br />maintenance worker. <br />5.Recommended Compensation: <br />Staff recommends that Mr. Fink be appointed to the position of Golf Course Superintendent <br />effective May 14, 2024. Salary. Starting wage of $31.15 (Grade 8, Starting Step) Benefits. <br />Vacation will accrue at a rate of 10 days per year and follow personnel policy.
