VOTE: Ayes 3,Nays 1 (Benson),Abstain 1 (Veach). <br /> 18. Hire Part-time Fire Fighters <br /> The City Council is requested to review the Staff report,receive a presentation, and discuss and approve <br /> the hiring of two part-time fire fighters. <br /> The Council discussed the item and asked questions of staff. <br /> Veach moved,Crosby seconded,to approve conditional job offers to two part-time fire fighters, <br /> Tom Brown and Matt Hoover at$20 per hour as of April 9,2024.VOTE: Ayes 4,Nays 1 (Benson). <br /> Fire Chief Van Eyll,continuing the Public Safety Report, gave a presentation on planned, existing and <br /> pending staffing levels for the Orono Fire Department,expected equipment deliveries and space <br /> remodeling for July 1,2024 and Jan 1, 2026. <br /> ATTORNEY REPORT <br /> City Attorney Mattick said he would have updates during the closed session. <br /> CITY ADMINISTRATOR/ENGINEER REPORT <br /> 19. Consider Public Road Petition(Mr. Ryan Ortlip) <br /> The City Council is requested to review the Staff report, receive a presentation, and discuss and give <br /> feedback to staff on possible construction of a new public street requested to serve West Branch Road <br /> The Council discussed the item and asked questions of staff and the petitioner,Ryan Ortlip,4685 West <br /> Branch Rd. and a neighbor,Erin Truskoski,4665 West Branch Rd. <br /> Council members indicated no interest in a public road but suggested the applicant make a storm water <br /> application and work with City staff and neighbors to see if there is a solution involving the City right-of- <br /> way. <br /> 20. Award Contract for 2024 Street Maintenance Project <br /> The City Council is requested to review the Staff report,receive a presentation, open a public hearing, and <br /> award the contract for the 2024 street maintenance project to the low bidder. <br /> The Council discussed the item and asked questions of staff. <br /> Page 3 of 5 <br />
