MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORONO COUNCIL MEETING <br />HELD AUGUST 10, 1992 <br />RICHARD HASSEL’S APPLICATION FOR A BEAVER TRAPPING PERMIT - CONT. <br />Jabbour felt the beavers have caused the Hassels an undue hardship. <br />Hassel noted they also have lost approximately 48 trees. <br />It was moved by Callahan, seconded by Mayor Peterson, to approve <br />a limited leghold trap permit for Richard A. Hassel of 870 Hunt <br />Farm Road. Ayes 3, nays 1. Goetten voted nay. <br />Goetten felt the appiI cants have a legitimate concern, but Is st i I I <br />against leghold traps. <br />Mayor Peterson Informed Mrit. Hassel that the DNR permit has expired <br />and that permit will need to be renewed prior to commencing with <br />the process. <br />(#13) EURASION WATER MILFOIL GRANT APPLICATION - <br />RESOLUTION #3150 <br />Moorse explained that David Sawyer of the Long Lake Council Is <br />proceeding with an application for a grant to fund milfoil <br />eradication. Sawyer has suggested that Orono join In with the <br />application process as they may have a better chance to obtain the <br />funding. <br />Sullivan noted that milfoil has been sighted at several locations <br />on the lake and they hope to proceed with control measures early <br />enough to entirely eradicate milfoil from the lake. <br />Jabbour said he disagrees with chemical treatments. <br />Moorse said they will need to work with Long Lake on the type of <br />control efforts used. <br />It was moved by Callahan, seconded by Mayor Peterson, to adopt <br />Resolution #3150 approving the Joint eurasion water milfoil grant <br />application with the City of Long Lake. Ayes 4, nays 0. <br />(§14) CITY CLEAN-UP A YARDWASTE - REGULATION RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Moorse explained that this recommendation Is for the yard waste <br />program as that will begin soon, and staff wilt follow with a <br />recommendation ^or the clean up. <br />Jabbour feM they should recover their costs through the clean-uo <br />program rather than the yardwaste program. <br />-t
