It is difficult to administer the contract <br />with Long Lake. <br />Partial Expansion of Coverage By the Peripheral Cities <br />A. Advantages <br />1.) Response time to some areas of the city can be <br />reduced. <br />2.) Could take greater advantage of the equipment in <br />the peripheral cities, such as Wayzata's aerial <br />truck. <br />B. Disadvantages <br />1.) Would not significantely reduce current costs <br />2.) Does not address the difficulties in <br />administering the Long Lake contract. <br />The Peripheral Cities Expand Their Coverage to Serve the <br />Entire City <br />A. Advantages <br />1.) Will provide the same response time improvements <br />as Alternative 2. <br />2.) Would reduce the number of contracts to be <br />administered. <br />3.) This is the lowest cost alternative. <br />4.) Would take greater advantage of the equipment <br />available from the peripheral cities. <br />B. Disadvantages <br />1.) Those areas nearest to the Long Lake city <br />boundary would have increased response times. <br />However, all response times would remain within <br />acceptable standards. <br />2.) Because the City of Orono funds approximately <br />801 of the Long Lake Fire Department budget, if <br />Orono were to cancel the fire contract, the City of <br />Long Lake would have to find alternative funding <br />sources and/or significantly reduce their fire <br />operation. <br />3.) As Long Lake explores alternative revenue <br />sources one source could be a reduction in their <br />police coverage. A reduction in their police <br />coverage would have a significant impact on Orono's <br />Police budget. <br />Satellite Fire Station. This alternative is focused on the <br />Navarre area.
