I «» the Mayor ?f 0'°"2 <br />A matter before you involving Orono and Long Lake. The matter <br />woo rMOlwd to the satisfaction of the two cities with the very <br />helpful work on your staff, whom we wish to thank. <br />While we were waiting to be heard, however, I listened with <br />considerable interest to the application of the City of <br />Andover. Much of the discussion by the Council mem^rs seemed <br />to Involve transportation issues involving Highway 10 and an <br />•Interim plan" Metro Council Is apparently working on. It <br />occurred to me that regardless of any plans which your <br />organisation may be considering, MnDot is at present engaged in <br />an Environmental Impact Study with the purpose of extending <br />Highway 12 from waysata westward through either a new section of <br />OrSno or through L^ng Lake, where it now is, to ^^^2.?2?e <br />beyond. Orono, of course, is opposed to certain of the^ssiblo <br />routes. But from the point of view <br />is self evident that the route eventually selected by MNDot will <br />in fact determine both your transportation plan and your interim <br />development plans in a westerly direction. <br />The selection of the wrong corridor will have the effect of <br />commercialising a rural area, harming a current commercial area, <br />and drastically changing residential zoning In the direction of
