Possibly onland storage
with a mucli smaller amount of dredging. Mr. McCleary
stated that wlien lie talked to tlie DNR they were in
favor of tlie dredging. Mr. Olson advised that in his
discussion with Mike ^fueller of the DNR he said he liad
mixed feeling about this project and was \>rondering if
there was another way to do it without liaving to do any
extensive dredging.
Mr. ffcCleary stated that presently his docks extend 170
ft. into tlie lalce and are going to be cut bark some
because of tlie converging property lines. He is working
with a pie-shaped piece of water.
The Planning Comnission inquired as to Mr. McCleary’s
intentions for the use of his land. He answered tliat
the City lias not permitted him to reconstruct Ms tavern
and he is having problems finding someone to lease the
building just as a marina.
With dredging, Mr. McCleary said that he could get 64 slips
in and probably half that amount witliout tlie dredging
because of the redefinition of his lot lines by tfie LMCD.
The Conmission suggested dry stack storage. Mr. McCleary
felt this would be too costly to operate. Mthougli
dredging would also be costly, he felt it would be a
permanent solution. He was also advised tJiat all dredging
approved by Orono would required removal of the spoils
from the watershed. Ifr. McCleary had indicated a disposal
direa to tlie rear of tlie proposed building.
The Commission was syinpathetic witli Mr. McCleary, but felt
there could be some alternative solutions to tliis problem.
After some discussion, McDonald moved, Gutlirie seconded,
to table tliis application alloMng staff to obtain some
documentation as to what tlie detrimental affects of this
dredging would be and allowing applicant to come in with
an alternative plan.
Ntotion - Ayes (4), Nays (0).
Mr. Olson stated tliat the applicant is requesting approval
of a lot area and width variance for construction of a new
home on tliis property. Tracts A and B are not separate
parcels and would have to be combined. Mr. Olson also
pointed out that the garage doors face the County road
and access to this road would require County apnroval.
The Commission suggested tliat the curb cut be off Linden
Lake. Mr. Evans, the builder, was present. He stated
that he would rather liav^e the curb cut off Linden Lane.
itiWiBiiii ■
JAMIES }k:CUim
(continued)
(^294)
R.
