MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION <br />OF ORONO INDEPENDENT’ SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 278 <br />HELD ON OCTOBER 25, 1993 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Orono Independent <br />School District No. 278 was held on Monday, October 25, 1993. <br />Present: Dave McKown Peg Swanson Thomas Mich <br />James Franklin Martha Van de Ven Neal Lawson <br />Board members John Maresh and Pamela Schroeder arrived while the <br />meeting was in progress. <br />UPON MOTION by Jim Franklin, seconded by Martha Van de Ven, the <br />consent agenda was approved as follows: <br />approved the minutes of the October 11, 1993 <br />regular meeting; <br />approved the appointment of Virginia Diethart as computer <br />clerk at Schumann Elementary School for the 1993-94 <br />school year; <br />approved the following coaches for fall sports: Bill <br />Greenwood, cross country; Steve Boylan, assistant <br />football; Ray Poquette, soccer - boys; John Merchant, <br />soccer - girls; Michelle Olson, tennis - girls; Julie <br />Hanson, assistant volleyball; Suzanne Johnson, <br />assistant volleyball; Linda Christo^iher, assistant <br />swimming - girls; Charles Plante, diving - girls; <br />approved the bills as covered by vouchers 079808 through <br />079943. <br />Motion carried. Board members Maresh and Schroeder absent. <br />Dr. Mich reported that a professional day was held today for the <br />faculty on team building and technical training; that the new <br />telephones are installed at Orono Primary School; that he would be <br />conducting the Elements of Effective Instruction on October 28 and <br />29 and the Board is invited to attend; that a breakfast will be <br />held on November 3 to honor Ron Gilbert, retired Schumann <br />Elementary Principal; that he wanted to congratulate all the fall <br />sports teass for a sensational season and he expressed appreciation <br />to all of the coaches for their good work; that he was distributing <br />a letter from Melodee Monicken and Tracy Nordstrom, who will be <br />substituting for Ms. Monicken while she is on sabbatical leave, <br />which was sent to all parents with students in Ms. Monicxen's <br />classes; that fencing, for safety purposes, will oe placed around <br />the pond that has developed at the Student Center as a result of <br />grading, etc.; that in their packet they had received the <br />District's Annual Report and he expressed appreciation to Connie <br />Fladelaiid, Toni Bergland and Carl Shutts for their work on this <br />report.
