Minnesota 55113 <br />Dear Mr. Sigerrud, <br />This letter is to re-state the importance of the planned safety improvement project for <br />Highway 12 in Long Lake and Orono. This project was originally scheduled for construction <br />in 1993. It has now been delayed until the Spring of 1995. After a large increase in accidents <br />at the intersection of Willow and Highway 12 in 1992, the cities of Orono and Long Lake <br />formed a committee to determine whether there were any interim solutions to the safety <br />problems at the intersection. The cities proposed the installation of temporaiy signalization at <br />the intersection. However, the alternative was not acceptable to MnDOT because of the need <br />for rechannelization of the intersection, the cost of the temporaiy signalization. and because the <br />permanent safety improvements were scheduled in the near term. The Committee has not lound <br />anv other feasible interim solutions to the .safety concerns at the intersection of Willow and <br />Highway 12. <br />It is critical that the Highway 12 safety improvements project proceeds on schedule for <br />completion in 1995.
