I <br />am sure I will be calling on you for assistance related to the <br />«iqhway 12 Corridor Study. In the meantime, there is another issue <br />related to Highway 12 that has been of continuing concern to the <br />City of Orono. The concern is with the delays in moving ahead <br />the Hichway 12 safety improvement project planned for Orono and <br />Long Lake, and the lack of cooperation from MnDOT in providing an <br />interim solution to the dangerous traffic conditions on Hignway 12, <br />esoeciallv at the Willow Drive intersection. The safety <br />improvement project was to be constructed in 1993. In 1992 the <br />City was advised the project would be delayed until 1994 in ^993 <br />the City was advised the project will be delayed until 1--^- <br />City has not been provided with an expiration for the delays or <br />iny assurances that the 1995 date is a firm date. <br />To help the City to understand your process of scheduling and <br />pri■^ritizing these projects, please provide the City with a listing <br />of tr- projects with which the Highway 12 safety improvements <br />project is competing, a list of the criteria used for prioritizing <br />or ranking the projects, and an explanation o,. why the Highway ^ <br />project 18 ranked lower than those projects tnat are schedulea for <br />ronst-uction in '93 and '94. Please also provide a listing o. the <br />projects that will receive funding in 1993 and 1994. <br />-^he Cities of Long Lake and Orono have agreed to participate <br />in the cost of installing a temporary traffic signal at the Wixxow <br />orive intersection. MnDOT has indicated the signalizaticn ^n not <br />proceed without roadway widening and channelization.
