NEEDED AMENDMENTS TO SHORELAND MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS <br />FOR CITY OF ORONO, HENNEPIN COUNTY <br />The following specific changes need to be made to the city of Orono's <br />shoreland management regulations in order to be compliant with the <br />statewide standards. Since these are mainly items of clarification or <br />"housekeeping/" amendment of the city’s current ordinance (adopted <br />February 24/ 1992} is not reguired prior to state approval of the city's <br />shoreland management regulations. However, these items must be <br />addressed the next time the city amends the affected sections of their <br />ordinance. <br />1. <br />2. <br />3. <br />4. <br />The follovii:^ sections need amendment to reflect recent statute <br />recodif icatioit: <br />a. <br />b. <br />c. <br />In Subd. 2 - "Chapter 105" should be "Chapter 103F" <br />In Subd. 3, 17 (Public Waters) - "105.37/ Subdivisions 14 and <br />15" should be "103G.005/ Subdivisions 15 and 16" <br />In Subd. 16/ J, 5/ i - Section "105.42" should be "Section <br />103G.245" <br /><fCf <br />Subd. 3/ y - The Water-Oriented Accessory Structure definition <br />should be amended to include "lock box" as an example of such <br />structures since it is the only type of structure the city has <br />chosen to allow in the shore impact zone. <br />Subd. 16/ I - Subitem 2 must be amended to add bluff impact zone to <br />the areas where intensive vegetative clearing is prohibited. The <br />city may also want to amend Subd. 16, I, 1. to add "bluff impact <br />zone" to the areas where removal of trees with a diameter of 6 <br />inches or larger is limited. <br />The streams that are required to be protected by the shoreland <br />management controls with the city of Orono need to have legal <br />descriptions added. A copy of the descriptions contained in the <br />attachment to the Hennepin County Protected Waters Inventory Map is <br />attached. We have highlighted the appropriate watercourses. <br />In addition, the city has chosen to include watercourses that are <br />not on or only include a portion (i.e. Long Lake Creek) on the <br />Protected Waters Inventory Map within the city's shoreland <br />district.
