Modes
typically Include transit, auto driver, and auto passenger.
Estimation of travel by mode allows us to determine the number
of vehicle-trips.
4.Trip Assignment:Between each piir of zones, the vehicle*trips pre iously
deteimined are assigned to one or more routings, or paths using
available roadways. The selection of the paths is based on
minimizing the travel time between the zones. Slower speeds
resulting from traffic congestion is considered in this
calculation.
Socioeconomic Data
The immediate task at hand is to assemble the necessary socioeconomic data for input to the
trip generation step. Specifically, the basic data necessary includes population, households,
retail employment and non-retail employment, by TAZ. We will begin by using data for
1994, and then proceed to use year 2015 forecasts.
Because of the requirements of a detailed forecast of traffic in the TH 12 corridor, we will
subdivide the regional TAZs into subzones. The smaller subzones will support a much more
detailed roadw'ay network, allowing us to forecast traffic on many more roadways which
would not otherwise be included in the regional model. Xote that the area described will be
modeled in detail, but the entire regional model will still be used in executing the model.
Outside the detailed area, the regular regional model level of detail will be used. Therefore,
the influence of other regional roadway facilities will be taken into account. The subdivision
has been defined geographically. A total of 29 regional TAZs have been subdivided into 164
subzones. The subdirided zones make up an area generally defined as follows:
Eastern Boundary: 1-494
Northern Boimdary: Trunk Highway 55
Western Boundary: Hennepin County Line, extended south to CSAH 15
Southern Boundary: CSAH 15, Lake Minnetonka. McGinty Road ICSAH 16)
Population and household totals for the subzones will be estimated using 1990 Census block
information (subzone boundaries follow census block boundaries), to subdivide the regional
TAZ totals. The division of TAZ employment information into the subzones will be based on
field observation and census-defined land area.
Socioeconomic totals for 1994 and forecasts for 2015 will be based on the Councils approved
1994 and 2015 TAZ forecasts for population, households, and emplo>Tr.ent. Figures 1 and 2
show the forecasts, by city, for population and households. Note that some portions of Orono
lie outside the detailed area and therefore the totals underestimate Orono population and
households.
kro
lj7624rr
