The impact analysis will use ^e residts of the
traffic forecast (along with other information) to evaluate the alternatives. The Barto -
Aschman project manager for the traffic forecasting work is Mr. Steve Ruegg, who will
attend the Tuesday meeting.
General Methodology
The travel forecasting effort will use the recently-developed regional forecast model,
modified to suit the particular needs of this study. The regional model, develope join y y
Mn/DOT and the Metropolitan Council, used the widely-accepted traditional four-step
travel demand forecasting process. Briefly, these steps are.
1.Trip Generation:In this step, socioeconomic data is used to estimate the number
and types of trips made in vehicles from particular geo^aphic
areas known as lYaffic Analysis Zones (TAZs). The regional
model uses, 1165 TAZs for the seven-coimty metro area.
2.Trip Distribution:The trips originating from each zone are distributed to
destination zones. The amount of trips distributed between any
two zones (i.e., a production zone where a trip begins and an
attraction zone where a trip ends) is proportional to the total
number of trips originating at the production zone and
terminatmg at the destination zone. In addition, the trips are
inversely proportional to the travel time between the zones.
PAHSONS
TPANSPORTATlON OPOUP A.- £;-£■ Cccc':-f':ry ifrc'cye-
