The addition of a sixteenth officer is subject to
each of the contract cities renewing the police contract under the current cost alloca»ion formula.
Cost to Soring Park
The City of Orono proposes to provide police services to the City of Spring Park at a
cost of $298,545. This is a $4,745 or 1.62fe increase over the 1994 contract cos» (please see
appen^lix A of the police service agreement for deta Is regarding the police budget and cost
allocation among the police service cities.)
As indicated above the 19 1 contract was a one year agreement to enable the City of
Orono to demonstrate a level of service and responsiveness that would enable Spring Park to be
confident in entering into a multi-year agreement with the City ot Orono for police sen- ices.
The City of Orono believes that a multi-year contract would offer significant advantages to both
cities in terms of stability of both police services and budgets. If a multi-year contract is desired
it can be in a form in which the budget amouris for each year of the contract are projected as
"not to exceed" amount. This would enable the City of Spring Park to plan its budgets several
years in advance. However, the City is open to either a multi-year agreement or a one year
agreement for 1995.
The Police Chief, the entire Police Department and I are committed to meeting and
exceeding the expectations of Spring Park regarding top quality police service and responsiveness
I
1 n
