Prepared By: SO Reviewed By: DJG Approved By:

AGENDA ITEM

1. Purpose. The purpose of this action item is to gain reapproval to replace the softener valves at the
Navarre Water Plant.

2. Background. Back in October of 2022 the city council approved replacement of the valves. The
distributor lost the line on those valves has been unable to full fill the order nor do installation. The city
worked with the new vendor based on our specification. The softener valves are in a chlorine enriched
atmosphere inside the water treatment plant and showing signs on corrosion and experience and increased
rate of failure. The valves are over 25 years old. Repair parts are becoming harder to find due to the age
of the valves. Reliability of the existing valves is a significant concern.

3. Cost. We have solicited quotation from Duncan Co, they are the only supplier of that valve style, for
water plant softeners, listed below

Company Company / Model Cost
Duncan Co. New valves and related components, installation $ 74,600.00

4. Funding. This project will be funded through the Water Fund. This purchase was identified in the 2023 Capital improvement plan. The projected year end fund balance is $102.642.

5. Staff Recommendation. I recommend approval of the purchase.

COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Motion to approve in the amount of $74,600 from Duncan Co. of Mpls, Minnesota

Item No.: 13 Date: November 13, 2023
Item Description: Reapprove replacement of Navarre Water Plant Softeners
Presenter: Scott Oberaigner
Public Works Supervisor
Agenda
Section:
Consent Agenda
