The purpose of this action item is to accept Ron Olson’s Resignation, to inform the council <br />of plans to recruit the next Finance Director for the City of Orono. <br /> <br />2. Background. The Finance Director position is a critical position within the city staff. In Orono the <br />position not only oversees the statutory roles of City Treasurer but also leads and manages the Finance <br />activities, Information Technology activities and the Human Resources Activities for the city. <br /> <br />3. Resignation. Ron Olson has indicated his intent to resign with his last day as full-time employee <br />being December 15th. Ron has tentatively agreed to continue on in a part time capacity to facilitate a <br />transition with the new director. Ron has been an excellent Finance Director and valued member of staff <br />for over 26 years. <br /> <br />4. Position Description and Scoring. The updated Finance Director position description is attached at <br />Exhibit B. The description had not been updated since 2016. Based on he updated job description the <br />position was rescored as follows. <br /> Current Proposed Metro Salary Survey <br />Grade (Score Range) 16 (648-843) 17 (844-970) Average High: $111,006 <br />Position Score 745 837 Average Low: $139,783 <br />2023 Pay Range $103,263 to $127,804 $109,872 to $135,984 <br /> <br />5. Recruitment. The selection process for the vacant position will involve advertising the position, <br />application screening, interview panels and reference checking. Upon completion of the process a <br />candidate will be presented to the council for consideration for appointment. <br /> <br />6. Timeline. Staff Recommendation. I recommend acceptance of Ron’s resignation from Full time employment <br />with city with continued part time employment through a transition period and the initiation of the <br />recruitment process for the City Clerk Position. I further recommend the council approve the updated job <br />description and assign the position to grade 17 in the city’s compensation table. <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Move to accept the resignation Ron Olson resignation from full time employment with city effective 15 <br />December 2023 with continued part time employment through a transition period; approval of the job <br />description at exhibit B with pay grade 17; and the initiation of the recruitment process for the Position. <br /> <br />Exhibits <br />A.
