Box 66
Crystal Bay, MN 55323
Dear Mayor Callahan and Council Members:
Your Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission (LMCC) has otticially .started
the first phase of proceedings that will stimulate the development ot "future"
communication services to the residents of our fourteen cities. We have been
carefully watching the major changes in technology, that will ultimately allow one or
more communication carriers to distnbute a multitude of sersices that will all be
transmitted over the new fibre, optic methods of disseminating telephone, television,
data, etc., etc.
Early in the conception of this idea, we recognized a couple of important challenges
that will have a direct bearing on our success. First. 1 .strongly encourage you to be
certain that the people appointed to the I.MCC by Orono, will be active and
involved in the prtKess and challenges we will encounter in exploring "future"
communication technology. Second, we realized that any interested competitor may
attempt to have some level of their company personnel appointed to the LMCC. It
could give them the opportunity to influence and/or vote on the official direction
this Commis.sion may pursue in granting a second franchise agreement or renewing
the existing one with Triax Cablevision. In light of that. I ask you to carefully look at
anyone who will be appointed to the LMCC. We want to examine "future"
communication providers and make educated deci.sions that will best represent our
cities and the residents. We expect this to be complicated and involved, but once the
process is complete w e w ill have the same level of services that are available to any
other city in our Minneapolis/SL Paul metropolitan area. That is our goal!
4T>
' .?r
