Council Update continued
September 22, 1995
9.
Long Lake Councilracmbcrs Mike Bash and Liz Olson to discuss and tr> to clarify this
issue. We plan to have a follow-up meeting to provide further information and further
clarification.)
Bill Wear shopping center fuel storage tank leak clean up. A number of years ago
leakage from the fuel storage tanks at Bill Wear’s shopping center was identified. In the
past year Mr. Wear has been working with a consultant to develop a plan and process
for cleaning up the leak. The process involves pumping the contaminated watei from
underground into a set of processing tanks that are designed to separate the contaminants
from the water.
Recently a City of Long Lake Public Works staff person noticed that some trenching was
being done on the Wear property. It appeared to be for the purpose of connecting to t e
newlv installed storm sewer line along Highway 12. The Long Lake City Administrator
has expressed a concern that the contaminated water not be allowed to be piped into the
storm sewer, which eventually ends up in Long Lake. Lyle Oman the city s Chief
Building Official has followed up with both the PCA and Bill Wear’s clean up consul^t
to ensure contaminated water is not and will not be piped into the new storm sewer. The
PCA has indicated that Mr. Wear has a permit that allows him to pump the processed
water into either the storm sewer or the sanitary sewer depending on the level to which
the water is cleaned of contaminants.
The citv recently received a trail grant in the amount of approximately $18,000 for
the construction of a bike trail to connect the existing bike trail at the south end of
the Dickey property to the Luce Line Trail. Tliis is a 50% matching grant. This work
will be completed this fall.
V I
