ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />MINUTES FOR FEBRUARY 27, 1995 ^ s * ’ • t <br />ROLL <br />The Council met on the above date with the following members present: <br />Gabriel Jabbour, Council Members J. Diann Goetten and Charles Kelley. Mayor EdwarcT <br />Callahan, Jr. and Council Member JoEllen Hurr were absent. Representing Staff were <br />Acting City Administrator John Gerhardson, City Attorney Tom Barrett, Building and <br />Zoning Administrator Jeanne Mabusth, and Recorder Sherry Frost. Acting Mayor <br />Jabbour called the meeting to order at 7:00 p m. <br />Kelley moved, Goetten seconded to amend the Agenda of the City Council Meeting ot <br />February 27, 1995, to include Item #4A, Application #1994. Robert Wolff, 4450 Forest <br />Lake Landing for an Amended Variance Resolution Ayes 3, Nays 0. <br />(#1) 7:00 P.M. PtBLIC HEARING - CDBG PROPOSED USE OF FUNDS <br />CDBG ALLOCATION OF FUNDS - RESOLUTION #3527 -7:00-7:15 P.M. <br />The Certificate of Mailing and Affidavit of Publication were noted. <br />Gerhardson reported that the City ofOrono will received $23,918 in 1995 from the <br />Community Development Block Grant Program. The public hearing notification, which <br />is required for citizen input, listed the following for recommended allocation of the <br />CDBG funds: <br />We Can 5 1,500 <br />Westonka Intervention 1,500 <br />Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners (lOCP) 1,500 <br />Housing and Rehabilitation 16,418 <br />Sewer Connection Grant 3,000 <br />Roseanne and Dick L'Allier represented Sojourner Adult Day Program. Mrs. L'Allier <br />said that Mn/DOT awarded Sojourner a grant for a vehicle which is wheel-chair <br />accessorized The grant will pay for 80% of the vehicle. The other 20% of the cost, <br />which is about $8,000, is to come fi-om the community. Sojourner, located in Spring <br />Park, is asking for a contribution from the City of Orono through this CDBG program. <br />L'Allier said this program allows adults, who would otherwise be institutionalized, remain <br />in their community by relieving the caregivers by providing an adult day program. Mr. <br />L'Allier is a participant in the program The participants are brought to the program by <br />other means, but the vehicle in question is used for field trips. Sojourner serves the <br />communities of Orono, Spring Park, Excelsior, Wayzata, and Mound, who will also be <br />asked for donations to help pay for the vehicle.
