K-2
A
R
IM
August 14, 1996
Orono City Council
P. O. Box 66
Crystal Bay, MN 55323
Honorable Edward J. Callahan, Jr. and the
members of the Council of the City of Orono
I and my wife live at 3225 Lafayette Ridge Court. Our home
is one of the twenty nice homes in the Lafayette Ridge
Homeowners Association in which I have been a member of the
board. We have lived in our present home for nine years and
moved here from a home on West Point Road in Tonka Bay, where
we had lived for 18 years. So we have been a part of and
concerned with this community for 27 years. We now live within
what might be called a city block of the development by John
O'Sullivan and Erwin Smith at the intersection of County Roads
19 and 15.
We and our neighbors look upon this development as a major
improvement for our neighborhood and our community. So little
has been done for so long to encourage the upgrading of the
buildings and the types of services provided by the commercial
section at this intersection as well as the entire corridor
on County Road 15 to Mound.
'»’he old church is an eyesore, and, as long as it sits there,
will attract undesirable and controversial proposals for uses
that could break down the planning for the upgrowth of our and
your community. There is nothing that would benefit nor is
there any need here for its use for low income housing. It
would simply contribute to the denigration of Orono City instead
of raising its image.
Rezoning to permit the use of the church site for an attractive
building for offices and other appropriate services will help
our neighborhood, will help our community as a whole, and will
help build the character and identity of Orono City. Not to
adapt our zoning to this proposal would not serve the better
interests of Orono. One more thing. To rezone would lift this
problem from the shoulders of the council once and for all and
gain its applause.
Sincerel
3225 Lafayette Ridge Court ~ Wayzata ~ MN USA ~ 55391-9232 ~ (612) 471-0343 ~ FAX (612) 471-1008
ADVERTISING and MARKETING SERVICES ~ TECHNICAL WRITING
