Ms. Julie Palmer, past chair of the Orono Education Fund, provided
the Board with information on the work of this organization and
stated that the orono Education Fund board is thrilled with the
support that is received from the community. She stated that there
has not only been an increase in dollars received but also an
increase in the number of donors which covers a broad range of the
community including people with children presently in school as
veil as people who no longer have children in the system. She
expressed appreciation to everyone for their support of this
organization and she acknowledged Judy Micke, Orono School District
office, for her work with this committee each year.
Dr. Mich expressed appreciation to Julie Palmer for her work these
past years and he welcomed Pam Henjum, the new chair for this
organization. Dr. Mich also expressed appreciation to everyone
who contributes so generously to the Orono Education Fund which
provides additional opportunities for students in the classroom and
scholarships for the graduating seniors. On behalf of the
organization, crystal apples were presented to past president,
Julie Palmer and Gretchen Amis, board member who has finished her
term of service.
Dr. Mich provided the Board with an update on legislative issues
and the areas of concern for education today reiterating that
through AMSD and MSBA such issues/concerns are watched carefully
during the legislative session. By consensus of the Board, local
legislative representatives will be invited to a Board meeting
which will provide opportunity for the Board to inform them of its
official position on issues/concerns.
At this time the meeting was recessed after which the Board held a
workshop session for the purpose of continuing discussion regarding
the issues that surfaced during the recent bond referendxm
election.
At 10:15 p.m. the Board meeting was reconvened and entered into an
executive session for discussion relative to the performance of an
employee.
The Board meeting was reconvened at 11:58 p.m. Chairperson Van de
Ven stated that the Board, in executive session, discussed the
performance of an employee.
