The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br /> <br />CITY OF ORONO <br /> <br />Position Title: Deputy Chief of Training <br />Document Date: August 24, 2023 <br />Department: Fire <br />Accountable to: Fire Chief <br />FLSA Status: Non-exempt <br /> <br />Nature of Work <br />The Deputy Chief of Training provides leadership to the Duty Crew and is responsible for all <br />scheduled training for all firefighters. They ensure that all the firefighters receive the proper <br />education to provide fire suppression and emergency services. To assist in coordinating <br />assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; and to provide highly <br />responsible and complex level of support to the Fire Chief as a member of the Fire Chief’s <br />management team. <br /> <br />Supervision Received and Exercised <br />The Deputy Chief of Training is supervised by the Fire Chief and they supervise the fire <br />lieutenants assigned to their station. <br />Examples of Work <br />Essential functions listed below are intended as illustrations of the various types of work that <br />may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them if the <br />work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. <br /> <br />• Responsible for the management, supervision, and administration of all training <br />functions of the Orono Fire Department; ensures that the department training <br />requirements are met or exceeded by all stations; maintains efficient communications <br />with the stations on Fire Department safety related matters. <br />• Coordinates the attendance records for department related training functions with the <br />Firefighter Tech-Admin; could respond directly to emergency scenes, performs size—up, <br />advises incoming companies, and maintains command until relieved by Department <br />Chief. May choose at his/her discretion to delegate the command of a scene to an officer <br />of lower rank. <br />• Provides supervision, guidance, counseling and direction to the Duty Crew staff, <br />commands the activities of assigned staff in safe and proper operations, provides clear,
