The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br />• Ensures that good public relations are practiced by all personnel under their supervision both <br />on and off emergency scenes; ensures that company members receive proper department <br />counseling on problems and growth; assumes the Battalion Chief or District Captain’s <br />position when delegated to do so. <br />• Ensures that all details directed by the Battalion Chiefs, Station Captain or Chief Officer are <br />carried out; provides coaching of company members to overcome problem areas; provides <br />the Battalion Chiefs or Station Captain with reports of their company’s activities, <br />accomplishments, and problems; knows and enforces department policies and standard <br />operating guidelines. <br />• Assist with the budgeting process including the operational budget and capital improvement <br />plan. <br />• Assist with the purchasing of equipment and materials for their company. Review, <br />requisition, research suppliers and alternate items as appropriate and make or recommend <br />purchases in line with the budget. <br />• Recommend, research, review and revise standard operation guidelines (SOG). <br />• Establish and review the annual goals and objectives for their company. <br />• Provide information and assistance for the annual report related to their company to include <br />the status/condition of equipment, apparatus, facilities and training. <br />• Assign duties to employees under their command; make recommendations relating to the <br />hiring, transfer, suspension, promotion, discharge, assignment, reward or discipline of <br />subordinate personnel. <br />• Assist with the recruiting, hiring and evaluation of firefighter candidates for the fire <br />department. <br />• Attend extra training and/or meetings that are required for this position, including State, <br />County and Mutual Aid meetings. <br /> <br />Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br />Knowledge: <br />• Knowledge of Firefighting Tactics - Knowledge of firefighting tactics such as <br />extinguishment, forcible entry, ventilation, rescue, salvage, and overhaul. <br />• Knowledge of Safety Considerations - Knowledge of basic safety guidelines and <br />regulations, and the ability to apply those guidelines and regulations to specific <br />emergency and non-emergency situations on the job. <br />• Knowledge of First Aid and Emergency Care - Knowledge of techniques for <br />evaluating injuries, providing first aid, stabilizing victims, and providing first <br />responder care before hospital transport. <br />• Knowledge of National Incident Management System - Knowledge of the <br />principles and terminology associated with the National Incident Management <br />System, and the ability to carry out the functions of an incident commander at <br />emergency scenes, including fire, rescue, and other emergency scenes. <br />• Knowledge of Fire Behavior - Knowledge of fire behavior, causes, and hazards, as <br />well as fire chemistry and physics. <br />• Knowledge of Hazardous Materials - Knowledge of first responder management <br />strategies for hazardous materials incidents, and the ability to recognize and evaluate <br />hazardous materials and determine necessary courses of action. <br />• Knowledge of Fire Detection, Alarm and Extinguishment Systems - Knowledge <br />of various detection, alarm, and extinguishment systems found in buildings <br />(standpipes, sprinklers, etc.) and how to operate those systems.
