k -
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
COUNCIL MEETINQ
JUN 2 3 1997
cmroFORONO
DATE: June 23, 1997
ITEM NO
Department Approval:
Name Gregory A. Gappa
Title Director of Public Services
Item Description: No Parking ResoluticlS'for the Fagemess Point Neighborhood
Residents in the Fagemess Point neighborhood have been experiencing parking problems from
vehicles with trailers. (See attached petition from neighborhood residents). This pai.jng problem
is the result of vehicle overflow from the North Arm and Maxwell Bay Boat landings.
The neighborhood residents have requested to be included on the agenda for the City .ouncil
meeting and will be present at the meeting to express their concerns to the CouncU members.
The attached resolution prohibits parking of vehicles with trailers along neighborhood sheets^
These vehicles are causing most of the problems because of the large number and greater length
of these vehicles. Parking of ordinary vehicles has not been a major problem in tWs area Md at
certain times the residents may wish to use on-street vehicle parking for short periods of tune.
Antoine Park is located along Fagemess Point Road. A project is currently m progress to
complete a major upgrade of the playground equipment in this park. This park will be receivmg
more use by area residents and on-street parking may be utilized by park users, so probbitmg all
parking is not desirable. With the current situation of large numbers of vehicles with traders
parked along the streets, parking for park use is unavailable.
This issue has been discussed with the Chief of Police and he is in support of this resolution. The
current situation results in calls to the police about noise, littering, and trespassmg on pnvate
property. Elimination of parking for vehicles with trailers should reduce the amount of traffic m
the neighborhood and associated complaints.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Consideration of the attached resolution prohibiting parking of vehicles with trailers on streets
in the Fagemess Point neighborhood.
