Box 66 Crystal Bay, MN 55323-0066 Dear Mr. Moorse: Thank you for your April 2 letter concerning the upcoming renovation and temporary relocation of Ridgedale Area Library services for approximately 18-24 months. We know how important library services are and have tried to minimize disruptions, taking into account the facts below. •Unrelated to the Ridgedale Library relocation, earlier this year more evening hours were added at the Excelsior, Maple Plain, Plymouth, Wayzata and Westonka libraries, all of which serve Orono School District #278. • In cooperation with the Long Lake community, that library was relocated to a larger and more easily accessible facility in May 1995-with Saturday hours added to the schedule in 1996. A renovation of the Maple Plain Library also was completed late last year to provide improved service to that community. • During the period that the "core" collection of the Ridgedale Library and many of its staff are re located to the Golden Valley Library (due to its central location and space availability), both the Wayzata and Plymouth libraries will gain additional evening and summer weekend hours. Given their larger collections, we think these two libraries are best able to meet many of the more in-depth needs of your residents. • All local schools and many homes now have access to our catalog through modem-equipped computers. Available online services, in addition to the library's catalog, include text articles from magazines and reference works in an electronic format as well as the ability to access the Internet. Patror\s of all ages also can make use of this technology to reserve items from any Hennepin County Library location for pickup at whatever library is most convenient for them. • Our statistics indicate that at present only 2% of the use of the Ridgedale Area Library is derived from residents of Long Lake and the percentage is even less for Maple Plain.
