A letter outlining the request is attached. <br />The Police Department has reviewed the application and has reported die following additional <br />information regarding the tournaments: <br />Each tournament is expected to draw between 50 and 75 boats. <br />The boats use a number of different accesses. <br />About half of the participants return for the weigh-ins (20-25 is the norm). <br />The weigh-in site is the DNR Maxwell Bay access. <br />The weigh-in takes about 30 minutes. <br />In past years the tournament has been conducted from Goose Island in Spring Park Bay with <br />no problems. <br />Mr. Nelson needs permits from the DNR and the Water Patrol to hold the tournaments. The Water <br />Patrol requires the applicant to obtain approval from the city as part of its permit process. <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Based on the police review, staff does not expect problems related to these tournaments. However, <br />it is recommended that the permit be approved with the condition that if the city does experience <br />significant problems with the tournaments the permit may be withdrawn. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Motion to approve the Denny Nelson request for special event permit for the series of Bass <br />Tournaments to be held at the DNR Maxwell Bay access, with the condition that if the city <br />experiences significant problems related to the tournaments the permit may be withdrawn.
