Although it 'j
has been a problem for Orono ]
Lane residents for many years, '
traffic has recently increased on
County Road 15 as a result of
Highway 12 constructioa
Qty staff estimated the cost of
building a new road 200 feet east
of Orono Lane’s present en
trance at $35,000, which would
be shared by eight property
owners at $4,3^ each. However,
that estimate could easily in-
cre^, according to city
engineer Glen CooIl
that residents alone pay for the
new road. “Residents aren’t the
only ones who would benefit
from this,” he said ‘‘My wife’s
cleaning lady has to walk across
County Roaci 15 because the peo
ple who drive her won’t pull into
Orono Lane. It’s an exceecfingly
dangerous turn made worse by
the uninterrupted flow of traffic
we now have because they took
the stophgbt out by Chi-CU’s.”
Coundlmember Tom Frahm
suggested there might be an in
termediate solution to the pro
blem by redudng the sp^
limit on County Road 15 and
moving Orono Lane. 20 feet in
stead ^ 200. Mowen pointed out,
however, that the speed limit
there is already 35 mph, and
people don’t be^ it
City administrator Mark Ber-
nhar^n said, s ace Orono Lane
residents w>^ be the main
beneficiaries of a new road,
= financing couid DOf COme OUt of
: a general property-tax
assessment.
N
* ■
I
