The Academy consists of a series of eight (8) <br />classes, held once a week for two and one-half hours. The instruction is comprehensive, covering <br />a different area of law enforcement or the criminal justice system each week. Instructors are <br />professionals in their areas of law enforcement or criminal justice. <br />WHO MAY ATTEND? <br />Any Hennepin County resident over the age of 21 may apply for admission to the Citizen Law <br />Enforcement Academy. Due to the nature of the material being presented persons previously <br />convicted of a felony cannot be admitted. <br />THE PURPOSE <br />The Citizen Law Enforcement Academy was created to provide information to the citizens of <br />Hennepin County so they may better understand the role the Sheriffs Office plays in the law <br />enforcement community and the criminal justice system. It is hoped that this instruction will give <br />graduates insight into the difficult and challenging situations law enforcement officers face every day. <br />Significant time is set aside for class participation as we fully expect this to be a two-way learning <br />experience. <br />TOPICS <br />Subjects covered include such diverse topics as crime prevention, criminal investigation, patrol <br />operations, family abuse, narcotics investigation, jail operations, scientific investigation, civil law <br />enforcement, communications and the court system Instruction in these and other topics will be <br />offered through a blend of lecture, tour, demonstration and hands on experiences. <br />FOR MORE INFORMATION <br />Application may be obtained from the Hennepin County Sheriffs Office Room 6 Courthouse or <br />calling 348-3744.
