The purpose of this action item is to gain approval to hire a full-time Police <br />Officer. <br /> <br />2. Background. The Police Department is currently recruiting to fill 2 vacancies. <br /> <br />3. Recruitment. The selection process for the position involved advertising the position, <br />application screening, and interviews. First round interviews are completed by a panel of <br />currently serving officers and second round interviews by the Chief of Police. Police Officer <br />applicant must also successfully complete a Psychological Exam, a Physical (Pre-employment <br />medical) exam and has pass the MN Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) licensing <br />exam. <br /> <br />4. Recommended Candidate. Nicholas Schwarz is currently employed as a Care Taker for <br />Mankato Rehabilitation Center Inc. Schwarz has a AAS in Law Enforcement from Alexandria <br />Technical College. He has taken the required examination and passed the POST licensing exam. <br />Schwarz is excited about the opportunity to work for the Orono Police Department. <br /> <br />5. Recommended Compensation. I recommend to hire Nicholas Schwarz as a full-time police <br />officer with an effective start date of July 31, 2023. <br />a. Salary. Starting rate of $35.02/hour start (LELS Local 40 Agreement pay scale). <br />b. Benefits. As a full-time employee the position is eligible for benefits as outlined in the <br />LELS Local 40 Agreement and personnel handbook.
