The Navarre Community Initiative seeks waiver of the fees associated with their planned “Bike Navarre event. The fees total $1,485.00, and include the special event fee, fees for temporary signs, and the Conditional Use Permit and escrow for signage on public property. Background. The Navarre Community Initiative, a private group of citizens seeking to promote the businesses and recreational offerings in the Navarre area, are actively planning a “Bike Navarre” event for September 20th. As part of holding and advertising the event, several permits are necessary from the city. These permits, and their fees include: Special Event permit ($50.00) Temporary sign permit ($35.00) Conditional Use Permit ($700.00) Conditional Use Permit escrow ($700.00) The Conditional Use Permit would authorize the placement of signs on public property, and will be reviewed by the Planning Commission in August, and the Council later that month. City is processing an ordinance amendment that would allow non‐profit/ civic organizations signage options. Other fees, imposed by the city or other organizations, including food vender permits, sales licensing, and event insurance are not requested to be waived. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: The Council should consider waiving these fees for a privately run, community and business outreach event.
