MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, August 24, 2015 <br />7:00 o'clock p.m. <br />McMillan asked if the City can help with advertising this event. <br />Nadler stated a flyer has gone out and that the group will be enhancing that to reflect the businesses that <br />are participating. Nadler stated they are doing their own press pretty much. Nadler asked whether <br />something could go into the next City newsletter. <br />Council Member Levang noted the next newsletter will not coming out until October but that it will have <br />the Bike Navarre event as the lead story in that edition. Levang stated the Pioneer, the Lakeshore, and the <br />Lakeshore Weekly have indicated they would be agreeable to including information on the event in <br />upcoming issues. Levang stated in terms of signage that is something that Mr. Barnhart will be covering. <br />Nadler stated a number of the local businesses also have the flyers on hand and that they are getting the <br />word out. Nadler stated in her view it will be a great bike rodeo and that they are hopeful kids from all <br />over Orono will come to the event. <br />Levang stated the flier has been included in the Council packet. Levang stated one business has agreed to <br />allow their store window to be painted to promote the event and that colorful bikes have been placed <br />throughout Navarre promoting the event. <br />McMillan asked whether the information has been put on the City's website. <br />Levang stated they have sent out one e-mail blast but that the Navarre Community Initiative is not linked <br />to anything on the City's website since they do not have their own web page. <br />Council Member Walsh suggested there be a link to the PDF flyer. <br />Cornick asked if they anticipate this being an annual event. <br />Nadler stated they are going to track the response to the event and see whether other organizations, such <br />as Blue Cross, might be interested in participating in future events. Nadler stated they need a track record <br />in order to apply for funds from those organizations. <br />Walsh stated the City of Elk River has a number of great community events in their downtown and that he <br />hopes Navarre will be able to do the same. <br />The City Council took no formal action on this item. <br />4. #15-3723 SOURCE LAND CAPITAL — LAKEVIEW PROPERTY — 405 NORTH ARM <br />DRIVE <br />Senior Planner Gaffron stated the Lakeview developers and the Citizens for Lakeview Preservation have <br />requested a temporary sign for the park outlot located along North Arm Drive. In reviewing this item, <br />Staff has concluded that there is nothing in the City's current sign code to address this situation. The <br />applicant is requesting a sign be allowed to be placed soliciting funds for the park. <br />Gaffron noted he sent the Council via e-mail some information regarding the code. In addition, Staff has <br />looked at whether there are different ways to resolve this matter. It is Staff s view that an amendment to <br />Page 3 of 13 <br />
