■ - J. -'•1 To the Orono Planning Coamis-lon: ■44^* ^ October 30f 1976 The reason our family is seeking this variance, is to give us some privacy and peace of mind which we feel we are entitled to living in the Village of Orono. Our home became ours this October after living here for twenty years and finally making that last mortgage payment. We treasure the beautiful lake in front of our home and the privacy we have had these many years. Needless to say, we were very distressed when Mrs. Parten chose to build her deck 10 feet from our property line, half story above the ground level, looking down directly onto our patio and into the lake front windows of our family room, when her property has a depth of over 600 feet. We thought the village had a policy of not allowing a new house on the lakeshore to be built in front of an existing one. Mrs. Parten chose to build her house in front of ours and at an angle facing across our property, using the view over our property for her lakeside windows. Mrs. Parten has lived in the immediate area for about 15 years so was aware of our family desire for reasonable privacy. Since we put in the patio 18 years ago, we planted evergreens along the north property line by our patio giving us a growth of approximately 6 feet. About five years ago on the property directly south of us, the village allowed the Partens to subdivid^i their property so they could sell the lot when it did not meet the width requirement at the building line. When the new house to the south of us was built, they built their deck looking over our property at which time we built a fence for some privacy as that area had been all wooded. Being well aware of our family*s desire for reasonable privacy, Mrs. Parten chose to design her house in such a way that her deck and large window are directly above our patio. We are asking for a variance to construct a fence approximately 22 feet long and 11 feet high to give us some reasonable privacy. With the evergreens we planted, we need an additional five feet of height to the fence to aquire the reasonable privacy our family desires when we are using our patio and family room. i 11 1:^ Mrs. Robert H.
