The purpose of the action item is to seek approval of a contractor to demolish 140 <br />Hackberry Hill. <br /> <br />2. Background / Summary. The property located at 140 Hackberry Hill was purchased by the City of <br />Orono in 2016 as part of a Life Estate agreement. The property was officially vacated in December 2022 <br />and is now in the possession of the City of Orono. The now vacant building will require demolishing for <br />future park uses. <br /> <br />3. Demolition. Staff requested three separate bids and received two back. The demolition will occur in <br />early June once the Orono Police Department and the Long Lake Fire Department have completed their <br />trainings and burn of the house. The demolition will remove all contents of the property and will bring in <br />soil to fill the cavity left behind. Orono Parks staff will seed the site once completed. <br /> <br />Contractor Cost <br />Derek Nikko Excavating $11,036.00 <br />T. Scherber Demolition & Excavating $29,092.50 <br /> <br />4. Funding. Funding for the contracted demolition work will come from the Community Investment <br />Fund. <br /> <br />5. Staff Recommendation. Staff recommends awarding the contract to Derek Nikko Excavating. Mr. <br />Nikko toured the site with staff and has a clear understanding of what needs to be accomplished for the <br />project. <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to award contract to Derek Nikko Excavating. <br /> <br />Exhibits <br />A.
