One of the mam topics of <br />discussion was the benefits to the Lake Ar-.a Cities of providing a supply of quality housing with <br />a range of housing types and costs. These jenefits include the following. <br />. A diverse housing supply will be better able to meet the housing needs of our <br />communities, both now and in the future. <br />• Our children and our parents would be able to remain in our communities as they <br />move through the various stages of their lives. <br />• A diverse supply of housing, that meets the needs of employees, provides a <br />competitive advantage to our local businesses, as well as to our cities and schools, <br />in their efforts to recruit and retain quality employees. <br />The consensus at the conclusion of the meeting was that the Lake Area Cities should continue to <br />explore the potential for cooperative housing efforts. <br />\ second meeting of the Lake Area Cities was held this fall to determine how best to move ahead <br />with cooperative housing efforts At this meeting, the representatives determined M ov^ <br />Staiement of Purpose of was needed to guide the cooperative efforts of the cities_ The <br />representatives reached consensus on the following Statement of Purpose for cooperative housing <br />efforts in the lake area. <br />To promote the development and preservation of a supply of quahty housing that <br />includes a range of housing types and costs that meet housing needs at all stages of <br />life and are affordable for households at all income levels. <br />The representatives agreed that the Statement of Purpose should be brought to all City Councils for <br />a resolution of support to ensure that all cities agreed on the overall goal of the cooperative housing <br />efforts. <br />Page 14
