Gappa Title Director of Public Services Administrator Reviewed: Agenda Section: Engineer's Report Item Description: Traffic Signal Justification Report for County Road 15/51 Intersection Bonestroo Engineers recently completed a traffic study for the County Road 15 corridor in eastern Orono. This study has been discussed by the Council at a work session meeting. One of the recommendations of this study was to further investigate the installation of a traffic signal at the County Road 15/51 intersection to provide for safer access onto County Road 15 from County Road 51. This is especially important during the morning rush hour when it is difficult to make a left mm onto County 15 because of the heavy eastbound traffic. Preliminary traffic counts showed this intersection most likely will meet the required warrants for the installation of a traffic signal. Per Minnesota State Starnes detailed traffic counts must be completed and a signal justification report completed before a traffic signal can be installed. Twelve to sixteen hours of traffic counts must be completed. We have obtained a pronosal from Bonestroo Engineers for completion of a signal Justification report for this project. The estimated cost for this smdy is $2,200. After completion, this smdy will be submitted to Hennepin County for review and approval. If signal warrants are met, additional discussions with the County will be required to discuss a project schedule and funding options. We are recommending Council acceptance of this proposal. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: Motion to accept proposal from Bonestroo Engineers for preparation of a Traffic Signal Justification Report for the County Road 15/51 intersection at an estimated cost of $2,200. 2
