Welfare to Work initiatives funded by McKnight Foundation, provides funding for
transportation and mentors for our MFIP-S clients.
lOCP is represented on the CASH Board, the Communities in Collaboration Council, the
Board of the Foundation HealthSystem Minnesota, District #284 Lifelong Education for
Adults and Families committee, the Orono Healthy Families, Healthy Youth
Collaborative, the Kids’Kare Kcnnection Board, the Local Collaborative Time Study
Advisory Board, and the Hennepin County Homelessness Task Force. lOCP is also a
member of the Wayzata, Plymouth and Minnetonka Rotary and the Wayzata and Twin
West Chambers of Commerce. In 1998, lOCP became a United Way-fiuided agency.
lOCP serves as partner and fiscal manager of the CONECT Project.
Vision 2000, lOCP’s 1999-2001 Strategic Plan also focuses lOCP on the internal
operations and infrastructure needed to sustain and grow these efforts - namely
fundraising, administration and staffing, communications, information systems
development, space, volunteerism, and heightened collaboration. Standing Board
Committees ~ Development, Operations, Public Relations, Finance, Strategic Plarming ~
attend to these issues. We have upgraded our fund development staffing and our
information systems software and hardware and have begun to develop the tools and
systems needed for tracking and measuring outcomes. Space has become a key issue at
lOCP. We have outgrown our current space and are researching space options.
Two examples of the creative expansion of recent fund development include:
• Spread Your Hlngs, lOCP’s April 17,1999, fundraiser celebration of its 20th
anniversary was not only an extremely successful first-time fundraiser (net - $84,515)
and community builder but an exquisite witness of the heart and resolve of our
community to do whatever it takes to remove the internal and external barriers that
keep our families and children from their dreams.
• lOCP became a United Way-funded agency in 1998. United Way funding is
prescripted for building capacity for service accessibility and delivery in lOCP’s
outer service area - Long Lake, Orono, Hamel, Medina, Corcoran.
The lOCP Development Committee is responsible for fundraising from all of the
constituencies that support lOCP. In 1998,35% of lOCP funding came from
individuals, 14% from area churches, 21% from Foundations, 8% from Corporations, 5%
from local small businesses, 7% from various units of government, 4% from other
organizations, 3% from United Way and Community Solutions Fund, and 3% from
interest.
As these initiatives build momentum they place heightened demand on the time, energy,
and resources. We exceeded our 1998 general operating revenue goal ($725,000).
However, our 4/1/99-3/31/00 revenue goal ($825,000) represents a 12.1% increase.
