REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
COf iNCii MJ?ETINQ
JUN 1 4 1999
CU Y Uh UHOfYO
DATE: June 11,1999
ITEM NO: ^ ^
Department Approval:
Name Ron Moorse
Tide City Administrator
Adminbtrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
City Administrator's
Report
Item Description: Appointment of Don pyrnateer, Jr. to Temporary Building Inspector Position
Bruce Vang, the City’s full-time Building Inspector, has been on a leave from tlie City to deal with
some personal affairs. Bruce has now indicated he will not be returning to hir- position with the City.
The City has begun the process of hiring a full-time Building Inspector. However, the building
inspection workload requires the City hire a temporary Building Inspector for the interim period prior
to the hiring of a rull-time Building Inspector.
Don Palmateer was a candidate for the Assistant Zoning Administrator position in the spring of
1998. The interview panel felt that, although he did not have the full qualifications for the Assistant
Zoning Administrator position, he appeared to be a good potential candidate for a Building Inspector
position. Mr. Palmateer was recently contacted to determine his interest in serving as a temporary
Building Inspector for the City. He has indicated he is interested in the temporary Building Inspector
position. Mr. Palmateer has an extensive construction background and has completed significant
coursework related to building inspection.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to approve the appointment of Don Palmateer, Jr. to the temporary Building Inspector
position at the Level 7, Step 1 pay rate of $16.00 per hour effective June IS, 1999.
