The neighborhood is located on the east and west
sides cf South Brown RoaH inct south of the T lire Line trail in Orono There are nine total pronerties that
would benefit from sanitary sewer. City records indicate that most septic systems in the neighborhood are
non-conforming or failing.
Designs for both a gravity system and a grinder (pressure) system were considered as shown on Figures 1
and 2. Toe gravity ^ysiciit v^ualu ic4oire llic irulallalion of a permanent lift station in the Fox Ridge
neighborhood. Gravity sewer pipe would be installed in the street and carry flows to the lift statioiL
Sanitary sewer sovrices would be extended to the property lines.
The grinder system option would require the installation of a common forcemain along the edge of the
existing street. Services would be extended to the property lines. Each residence would be served by a
residential grinder station that would pump flows into the common forcemain
In both the gravity and pressure options, the sewer pipe crossings under C.R. 146 and the Luce Line trail
would be jacked or directionally bored. Both systems assume flows would be pumped to an existing
gravity manhole at the intersection of Brown Road and Watertown Road in Long Lake.
The following is a summary of the estimated costs for each cation:
Area ff of Units Est Project Cost Est Cost/Unit
Fox Ridge-Grinder 9 $190,000 $21,100
Fox Ridge-Gravity 9 $304,000 $33,800
The gravity sewer option would require that the sewer be installed in the roadway and therefOTe conq>lete
street reconstruction will be requir^. .Street reconstruction costs have been included in the gravity sewer
estimate shown above. The grinder option assumes that the forcemain would be directionally bored along
the edge of the roadways and therefore street repairs would be necessary only at manhole locations.
The estimated costs are based on 1999 unit prices and can be related to the ENR Construction Cost Index
for May, 1999 of 6,006. Soil investigation work has not been completed and the estimated costs arc
based on typical Orono soils.
I
2335 West Highway 36 - St. Paul.
