COUNCIL
m \ 0 W99
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
ClTY OF OHUwU
DATE: May 7, 1999
ITEM NO: / %
Department Approval:
Name Ron Moorse
Title City Administrator
Administrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
City Administrator’s
Report
Item Description: Authorization to Hire a Part-Time Police Clerk
The Police Department's full-time Police Records Specialist/Secretary is currently on leave due to
a work-related injury (inflammation in her forearm) that prevents her from performing the duties of
her position. She has been on leave since March 25. It is not clear when she will be able to return.
This leaves one full-time and one part-time office support staff person. The part-time staff person
is not able to change her work schedule to work additional hours. Because the summer season is the
Police Department's busiest period, it is necessary to provide additional staffing on a schedule of 16
hours per week.
Ideally, the additional person would have some police office background. The Police Department
will contact other departments in the area to determine if they have part-time office staff who would
be interested in working additional hours for the Orono Police Department. The Department will
also check with temp agencies to find a person with some police office background. If neither of
these options is successful, we will need to advertise for a part-time clerical position.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to authorize staff to hire a part-time police clerk.
1
I
