City Submission - Orono Schools
Response Letter - 3/23/99
Page 2
Middle School - As budget allows, landscaping will be provided along the west drop-olT walk from
the southern cross walk to the northern building entrance, in the large parking island, along the west
edge of the parking lot and drive, and along the northern drop-off walk.
High School - As budget allows, landscaping will be provided along the west side of the new walks,
in pedestrian and parking islands, and along the north side of the event lot. Groupings of evergreens
may be located in the area to the northwest and west of the event lot and around the NURP pond.
6.Plant Palette - Additional varieties of plants will be utilized in the final landscape plan including, but
not limited to Red Maple, Scrviceberry, and Dogwood.
7.Phasing - The School District has every intention of developing the Middle School and High School
sites as a campus. With this, landscaping will be viewed as an important and integral part of the
renovation and construction projects. As previously stated, the final landscaping plan will reflect
more and varied plant material than shown on the CUP submission drawings. We feel that to require
additional or phased planting as a condition of the approval is unnecessary.
8.Frosion Control - Erosion Control and Storm Water Management Plans have been submitted to
MCWD for their review. The required 26' wide buffer along Basins 6 and 8 has been shown because
there is no proposed grading within the limits (only buffer landscaping to deter school maintenance
staff from mowing these areas).
9.Tree and Woodland Protection - Existing trees will be protected with snow fence at the drip line. The
Removals Plan and Grading Plan will also indicate limits of construction so as to eliminate any
possible damage to existing woodland areas.
We trust the above information addresses the issues at hand. If you have any other questions please do
not hesitate to call.
Respectfully,
ANDERSON-JOIINSONASSOCIA TES, INC.
Cc: Liz Van Zomeren - City of Orono
File
