Box 66 <br />Crystal Bay, MN 55323 - 0066 <br />Dear Mayor and Councilmembers, <br />We ask the City of Orono to support WeCAN's request for <br />Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. <br />As you know, your city's CDBG allocation is now part of a pool of <br />funds from communities receiving less than $50,000 annually in <br />CDBG funding. Since you city has had a long history of supporting <br />WeCAN operations, we are asking for your support of our <br />application for funding. This year WeCAN is requesting $12,000 <br />from Consolidated CDBG funds. <br />WeCAN is a community-based human service organization, <br />dedicated to helping people achieve greater self-sufficiency and <br />family stability. WeCAN provides a variety of services to low income <br />residents in western Hennepin County. <br />WeCAN served 780 families in 1998, 29 of whom are Orono <br />families. Our services include Emergency Services, Job Counseling, <br />Food and Nutrition Education, Family Support Services, Public <br />Assistance intake services, and Family and Individual Mental Health <br />Counseling. Enclosed is additional information about Orono <br />residents WeCAN served. <br />We are hoping a letter of support, or resolution, from your city can <br />be sent to us before April 1,1999, which would allow us to submit it <br />to Hennepin County by their deadline.
