A PROCLAMATION ESTABLISHING <br />MAY 1-2,1999 <br />AS MARCH FOR PARKS WEEKEND <br />WHEREAS, May 1-2,1999 has been established as "March for Parks Weekend"; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of organizing March for Parks was to plan a nationwide <br />demonstration of public concern over the perilous condition of the nation's parks and public spaces; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, these events will not only raise awareness, but also necessary funds for <br />park improvement, protection, and education projects benefiting national, state and local public <br />parks; and <br />WHEREAS, those participating in March for Parks are demonstrating that they are <br />committed to protecting and revitalizing our national treasures for generations to come; and <br />WHEREAS, everyone must become familiar with the environmental consequences <br />of their actions and the impact it will have on future generations. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, the Mayor of Orono, do hereby proclaim May 1-2,1999 <br />as "March for Parks Weekend" in Orono, Minnesota, and call upon the residents of this city to <br />observe and participate in this weekend, as well as the days ahead, with sensitivity and respect for <br />the nation's precious parks and public spaces. <br />Adopted by the City Council of the City of Orono, Minnesota at a regular meeting <br />held this 8th day of March, 1999. <br />ATTEST: <br />Gabriel Jabbour, Mayor <br />Linda S.
