MP.
r
r-♦
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
iMHlL MEETING
NOV 1 3 2000
Cl IY ut- UHONO
DATE: November 9,2000
ITEM NO:
Department Approval:
Name Ron Moorse
Title City Administrator
Adminbtrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
City Administrator’s
Report
Item Description: Robert Erickson Request for Full Turning Movement Access on Highway 12
West of Willow Drive
Robert Erickson, who owns a commercial development on Industrial Boulevard in Long Lake, is
requesting the support of the Orono and Long Lake City Councils for a full turning movement access
on Highway 12 to serve his property. In past discussions with Mr. Erickson, the City has indicated
that because there are a number of properties with existing full turning movement accesses to
Highway 12 west of his property, the best way to provide him with access is to connect his property
to an existing access with a frontage road or to consolidate his access and an existing access at a new
location. This will require working with the properties that would be affected by both the access and
the frontage road.
At this stage, Mr. Erickson is requesting the City ’s support for the general concept of providing a
full turning movement access west of Willow Drive that would serve his property.
Mr. Erickson ha5 concerns regarding the impact on his commercial property of moving a substantial
amount of traffic from current Highway 12 to new Highway 12. His attempts to address these
concerns have the potential to delay the Highway 12 upgrade project. The City ’s support for a full
turning movement access for his property would alleviate these concerns and remove this obstacle
from the Highway 12 upgrade project.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to direct staff to prepare a resolution indicating the City ’s .:.f port for the concept of
vri>v*. ling a full turning movement access on Highway 12 west of Willow Drive that would serve
Mj’. L.rickson’s property.
4
tfiimiilliliiinfli
