Gappa
Title Director of Public Services
Administrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
'/.Public Services's Directors Report
Item Description: Electric Service for the Highway 12 Lift Station
Provision of electric service for the new Highway 12 relief sewer capacity lift station will require
the installation of a new overhead transformer on the high voltage power line on the north side
of Highway 12 and installation of an electric service under the highway to the lift station on the
south side. NSP’s cost for this transformer installation is $3,873. The City is then responsible
for installation of the electric service from the transformer to the lift station.
We are working on obtaining quotations for the installation of the electric service line. The
estimated costs for this work are $2,600 for directional boring of a conduit under Highway 12
plus $1,000 for the electric cable and connection. The City will obtain quotations and have the
directional boring completed by one of the boring contractors working on other sewer projects in
the City. The electric cable installation and connection can be completed by the electrician
working on the lift station project. This will require a change order because the lift station
contract was based on the contractor connecting to a new pad mounted transformer installed next
to the lift station. The cost for NSP to install high voltage primary cable under Highway 12 and
a pad-mounted transformer next to the lift station was $17,000, so decision to have an overhead
transformer and low voltage electric service was made. Also, because of the temporary nature of
the lift station this is a better option.
We are recommending Council approval for NSP to install the transformer at this time, so they
can complete their work. Council approval for the other items will need to be obtained later.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
Motion to approve installation of an overhead transformer for the new Highway 12 sanitary sewer
lift station by NSP in the amount of $3,873.
