BACKGROUND. <br />1.01. In the summer of 1999, the City Councils of the Cities of Orono and Long Lake created the <br />Long Lake - Orono Consolidation Study Committee to examine whether the two cities <br />should merge. <br />1.02.On May 25, 2000, the committee adopted its findings and recommendations in favor of <br />merger. These were amended by the committee on June 1, 2000. The findings and <br />recommendations constitute a plan for cooperation and combination under Minn. Stat. Sec. <br />465.82. <br />1.03. On June 5,2000, the City Councils of both Orono and Long Lake voted to adopt a resolution <br />adopting the recommended plan for cooperation and combination. <br />1.04 The Cities of Orono and Long Lake are eligible for a consolidation implementation grant in <br />the amount of up to $100,000 per year for four years through the Minnesota Board of <br />Government Innovation and Cooperation. <br />1.05 A grant application has been prepared for submittal to the BGIC. <br />Section 2. COUNCIL ACTION. <br />2.01. The City Council authorizes the submittal of the consolidation implementation grant <br />application to the BGIC. <br />Page 1 of2
