The purpose of the action item is to consider the joining of the Joint & Cooperative <br />Agreement for Public Safety Purchasing. <br /> <br />2. Background / Summary. The Orono Fire Department will be an active participant in the west <br />suburbs automatic aid/mutual aid/box alarm system. As communities within Hennepin County respond to <br />incidents together, breathing apparatus among other items could become an issue. Different communities <br />use different equipment resulting in potentially hazardous conditions, possible even life threatening, from <br />the lack of common equipment. The Joint Powers Agreement is an effort to allow participating <br />organizations the ability to purchase the same breathing equipment, ideally tested and maintained by the <br />manufacturer, resulting in increased interoperability and life safety. <br /> <br />3. Staff Recommendation. Staff recommends that the Orono City Council authorize the joining of the <br />Joint & Cooperative Agreement for Public Safety Purchasing. <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to approve the City of Orono to join the Joint & Cooperative Agreement for Public Safety <br />Purchasing. <br /> <br />Reference <br />A.
