and <br />A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF A PLANNING GRANT <br />FROM THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL <br />TO OFFSET A PORTION OF THE COSTS OF THE <br />LONG LAKE/ORONO CONSOLIDATION STUDY, <br />WHICH HAS GREATLY BENEFITTED ORONO <br />IN THE UPDATE OF ITS COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br />WHEREAS, the City of Orono is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan; <br />WHEREAS, the Cities of Orono and Long Lake are interrelated in relation to many <br />elements of the Comprehensive Plan; and <br />WHFREAS, the cities aie in the process of studying whether the two cities should <br />be consolidated; and <br />WHEREAS, the consolidation study process has involved the clarification of shared <br />values and goals among the tw o cities regarding land use, housing, transportation, and other elements <br />of the Comprehensive Plan; and <br />WHEREAS, the discussion of values and goals by the Consolidation Study <br />Committee has been a great benefit to Orono in its Comprehensive Plan update process; and <br />WHEREAS, the funding of the Consolidation Study, in addition to funding the <br />Comprehensive Plan update, has been difficult as the City has many competing interests for limited <br />funding. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED -.nat the Orono City Council does hereby <br />indicate its support oi'a planning grant from the Metropolitan Council to offset a porti •'>f the costs <br />of the Long Lake/Orono Consolidation Study, which has been a great benefit to Orono m the update <br />of its Comprehensive Plan. <br />Page 1 of2
