# <br />VILLAGE OF ORONO <br />MINUTES or- THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION, VILLAGE OF <br />ORONO, JULY 15, 1968 <br />Acting Chairman, Robert Searles, called the <br />Meeting to order at 7:30 P. M. Present were <br />Rice, Nicholls, ffcCarthy, and Dongoske. <br />Councilman Stubbs representing the Council <br />and Councilman Butterfield also sat in at <br />the Meeting. Absent were Russell and Bartig. <br />UNITY INVESTMENT CORPORATION <br />Mr. Tuthill and Mr. Angelikis appeared <br />representing the Unity Invest'ient, to answer <br />questions by interested citizens. The <br />following of a large group appeared to ask <br />questions of them. In order of appearance: <br />King Tristani, John Birch, Mr. ^ Mrs. E. J. <br />Schroeder, Mrs. T. R. O'Malley, Robert <br />Warren, Pat Swenson, D. C. ?fesser, Steve <br />Anbuhl, Ed. Stanke, Roger Dolliff, Sheldon <br />Kaplan, Walter Massengale, Tom Nelson, Mrs. <br />Val Elliot, Jack Wenger, Cy DeCosse, and <br />Gladys Olson. <br />Discussion was held on traffic count; <br />credentials of Unity Investment Corp.; <br />price of rentals; setbacks; the taxes <br />derived from the project in comparison to <br />number of children added to the school <br />system; the comparison between having <br />commercial in the area or townhouses; <br />problems of pollution and water; on how <br />the area became zoned as it is; on the <br />spirit of zoning. After discussion, <br />Sheldon Kaplan asked the Planning Commission <br />if he could take a standing vote of, for <br />or against the project, which was granted. <br />Of the estimated 60 people in the hall, <br />all were against except 6. A petition of <br />10 names was presented opposing tne complex. <br />Dongoske moved, Nicholls seconded, that the <br />proiect as presented be denied, with a <br />recommendation that the future density of <br />these projects should be limited to 6 units <br />per acre and the quality of these projects <br />be commensurate with the area of the project. <br />Motion, Ayes (4) - Nays (0). <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />PUBLIC HEARING <br />k
