DRONO COUNCIL MEETING HELD JULY 26, 1976
Dick Benson, City Administrator, stated that the
proposed Bike Trail project funded by the State
does follow the same criteria as the F.A.U. Grant
applied for by the City of Orono two years ago.
The present Federal Demonstration Project and the
previously applied for F.A.U. Grant are entirely
different routes that, if approved by the two
agencies, would require some City funding, F.A.U^
($120,000, F.D.P, $37,500) which v;ould have to
be supported by a mill levy. The question
that always arises is, what will the environmental
impact be, hardcover, trees, other removal of
natural obstructions, etc.
I recommend we apply for the project now and if
approved by the agencies, then allocate monies
for an environmental study, if this is a chargable
expense to the project.
Mr. V7alt Lathrop, Park Commission Chairman, and
Fern Kubalsky, Bike/Hike Trails Chairwoman,
addressed the City Council in favor of the project
and reviewed the entire project,
Paurus moved, Butler seconded, to apply for
the Federal Demonstration Project in the amount
of $37,500. Motion, Ayes (3) - Nays (0).
